Qmailrocks, Courier IMAP and Debian Etch

I took the plunge today and upgraded my server to Debian Etch. All went pretty well, except that theQmailrocks mail setup was broken.

After a bit of fiddling about (recompiling qmail mostly), it seemed to be up and running, except that I can't log in via IMAP. Strange...

It turns out that the standard Courier-IMAP package in Etch has authentication against a password file (authvchkpw method) disabled.

you should compile

you should compile courier-authlib package from source en add symbolic links from /usr/local/lib/courier-authlib to /usr/lib/courier-authlib.

The problem i have is that libc6 gives me troubles for starting qmail

Giving up on Qmail

The hassle in getting the previous setup back up and running was just way too much. So what I've done (with thanks to Indigospring for cleaning out a severely broken Courier install) is moved to standard Debian-packaged Postfix and Courier.

That way, the next time there's a major Deb upgrade, it won't break stuff (just about everything else on the server is properly Debian-maintained already).

Etch and Qmailrocks

You have a point about not breaking stuff when there's an upgrade.

For the time being at least I've created a list of Etch specific additions for the QMR install (until v3 is released for Debian at least):

HowTo
